Well, we finally got some much needed rain. Although we are still in stage 2 water restrictions, the rain we received seems to have kept us from stage 3. I know many of you have worried about your lawns, especially those of you with St. Augustine Grass. A good many others have just, and I quote, “let it die and go to Jesus”. The yards I have noticed that seem to be weathering the drought better have been the hybrid grasses such as Zoysia and hybrid Bermuda’s. They can be quite expensive, but the long-term maintenance and watering requirements can probably off-set the cost in just a couple of years.
Just the other day a friend of mine on Facebook posted something that was pretty thought provoking. The quote was, “Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a glass of wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and say, WOO HOO what a ride!”
I have thought a lot about that since I saw it the other day. There were a few “likes” and one comment, but that was it. If you get a chance, I’d like you to view a video on youtube that addresses that same thought process. You can search “Francis Chan Balance Beam” or www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA_uwWPE6lQ . What I like about this topic is how it challenges us to get past ourselves. People are meant to LIVE, People are meant to INTERACT, People are meant to RAISE more people, HELP and LOVE other people, LAUGH, EXPERIENCE, MENTOR, and acknowledge and interact with their CREATOR! We are to be USEFUL! So when I think about sliding into home base, I hope that my uniform is worn out, that I’m sweaty, tired, out of breath and smiling. I pray that my God will be clapping and will tell me “good job”! At that point, no one will care what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in or how much money I made. The only question that will matter will be if I knew Jesus. If I did, I should be thoroughly WORN OUT.
